All these pieces are cut-outs. They are mixed-media on board; painted, waxed and polished, about 16mm deep. I see them as "Rose tablets".
The starting point was a single embroidered Rose on a cushion, included many times in earlier paintings. It wasn't botanically accurate. But it embodied the convolutions, scent, luxury, saturated colour and allegorical meanings of the Rose.
